This app serves as a bilingual Thai Buddhist calendar that can be displayed in either Thai or English. It also allows you to set notification options in advance for the Buddhist holy days, so you can be prepared to show respect by buying flowers and candles for the Buddha.

The Meaning

Buddhist holy days, also known as Uposatha days, are the days when monks are allowed to discuss the Dharma, which consists of the teachings of Buddha. On these days, Buddhists are encouraged to listen to the Dharma teachings that guide them towards freedom from suffering. Practicing mindfulness and concentration and praying for the Buddha's teachings to endure are important on these holy days.

Buddhist Holy Days Definition

Each month, there are typically around 4 holy days according to the lunar calendar. These are determined by the waxing and waning of the moon: the 8th day of the waxing moon, the 8th day of the waning moon, the 15th day of the waxing moon, and the 14th or 15th day of the waning moon. The day before a Buddhist holy day is known as the shaving's day.
